Former Lagos State Governor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, says he is not at war with Governor Babatunde Fashola, adding that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) fabricated such lies to distract the administration.
Tinubu stated that his relationship with Fashola remains unbreakable and unshakable, and that the unity, solidarity and sense of brotherhood existing between both of them is a threat to mischievous political opponents.
“This unity is indivisible, unshakeable and with a resolve to have a straight focus on governance for the benefit of the people of Lagos. We are building a model for the rest of the country, that our governance should have relevance to the majority of the people. Our union is indivisible and the resolve is to work for Lagos,” said Tinubu.
He described those spreading rumours about conflicts between him and Fashola as people who are engaged in ‘beer parlour’ stories.
The former governor added that the various publications spreading the lies were using his name and that of Fashola to sell their publications and earn a living.
He explained that over the years, both of them had developed a relationship based on mutual respect and that there is no question of master-servant status in their relationship.
The former governor who also spoke on the Coalition for Defence of Electoral Reforms (CODER) said the body which is non-partisan was a genuine movement that aims at ensuring development and stability in the country and a better tomorrow for the younger generation.
According to Tinubu, the body is working in concert with like-minded Nigerians to ensure that election rigging becomes a thing of the past, adding that the group is only supporting the recommendations of the Justice Uwais Commission on Electoral Reforms.
He said just as Nigeria has successfully liberated herself from military dictatorship, the body would not allow democracy of a cabal to reign in the country.
He described the visit to Nigeria by the United States Secretary of State, Senator Hillary Clinton, as a good omen for the country against the backdrop of the long established relationship that exists between Nigeria and the United States.
He added that the visit has also reinforced the special focus that the President Barak Obama administration has on Africa, a status that had been in place right from when Mr. Bill Clinton was President and now that his wife is Secretary of State.
Tinubu explained that Mrs. Clinton had been very frank in her discussions about germane issues concerning Nigeria such as electoral fraud, corruption, administration of justice, human rights and foreign direct investments.
He described the issues as very important ingredients which Nigeria must tackle for the sustenance of democratic rule in the country.
